NTU Women’s Lacrosse Trophy chase

Women’s Lacrosse 1s have had a whirlwind season within the Women’s Midlands Tier 1 league as they fight for a promotion into the next level of University Lacrosse. To add to an already strong season, they now also find themselves in the semi-finals of the Women’s Trophy. This is the furthest the club has ever got within the knockout competition making this their biggest fixture to date. With the chance to be at a BUCS Big Wednesday final the team will need to dig deep as they come up against the University of Durham 2s, who previously knocked out the club’s biggest rivals – UON – at a previous stage of the competition.

Position Team Played Won Drawn Lost Points
1 Nottingham 2 9 8 0 1 24
2 Nottingham Trent 1 7 7 0 0 21
3 Oxford Brookes 1 8 5 0 3 15
4 Warwick 1 7 1 1 5 4
5 Nottingham 3 8 1 1 6 4
6 Loughborough 2 7 0 0 7 0

In the Midlands Tier 1 league the team has had huge success having won 7 of their 7 fixtures, in all these games but one they have managed to secure over a 10-goal lead. The team’s biggest rivals UON 2s posed more of a challenge, however the NTU Girls were still able to get a win in their away fixture against the other promotion hungry side. They are set to face off against the team once more this season at home in what is likely to be a league deciding game. UON 2s also sit on an undefeated record within the league, excluding the game they lost to the team in Pink.

The team have faced up against 3 sides so far in their Trophy campaign, an early walkover from St Andrews 1s in the opening round took them onto Durham 3s. Continuing the trend from the league, the girls defended the home ground with a 10+ goal win of 24-6. This fixture only adds to the build up of the semi-final as Durham 2s will look to get revenge for their defeated side. The quarter finals match was played away against the University of Leeds 1s ending 16-8 to NTU side advancing them into the semi-final.

Durham 2s will be no easy match as the side currently sit in a higher league than the girls in Pink and have won all 10 of their fixtures. However, within their league the side only scraped a narrow 8-6 victory against Leeds 1s in their second face off, the same side who NTU beat 16-8 in the Trophy to advance to the semi-finals. This demonstrates the serious potential the team has to advance to the final and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

The match will take place Wednesday 4 March on the Clifton 3G pitch at  13:00. We encourage you to come and support the NTU side and watch some top-level lacrosse. Good Luck girls!
