BUCS Match report 1.12.21

Week 9 saw the penultimate week of BUCS action this term and as always delivered another bumper week of fixtures, with 71 NTU teams in action across the week.

One of the first matches to take place was Women’s Squash 1st team, who faced University of Oxford 1st team. The stakes were high as this was a must win game for the girls, as it was their best chance of survival in Midlands Tier 1. Our team did not disappoint, with all of our athletes delivering a convincing performance, leading to a 4-0 win, putting the girls in an excellent position to maintain their status in the division.

Not to be outdone, the Women’s Tennis 1st team also faced the University of Oxford, this time their 2nd team. NTU put in a fantastic display taking their 1st victory of the year, giving them a greater chance of survival.

Heading outdoors to the Clifton grass pitches, Women’s Football 2nd team took on University of Oxford 1st team, to maintain their unbeaten start. Wednesday brought some challenging conditions including a hail storm, but the team excelled with a 2-1 victory moving themselves into contention for promotion.

At the same time our Rugby League 1st team were lining up against Loughborough University 1st team in the premier south division, looking for revenge from the reverse fixture last month. The performance was fantastic, and the team delivered a 29-16 win, meaning that after some very close defeats, the team grabbed their first win of the season.

One of our last fixtures outside on campus was the Women’s Lacrosse 1st team, who took on Durham University 2nd team in Premier North 2 top of the table clash. A win would put the team in pole position for promotion to the top division in the country. An excellently executed game plan and strong performance, saw them run out 16-6 winners in some freezing conditions out on the 3G.

Away from home this week, our Women’s Rugby 1st team who are currently top and unbeaten in their league campaign, faced 2nd place University of Birmingham 2nd team. A win for NTU here would boost title hopes and put daylight between the teams. Once again the girls did not disappoint, shutting out the opposition with a 35-0 victory.

Finally, a mention to one of our weekend teams, last Sunday the American Football team, in near blizzard conditions came away with the win against University of Leicester 48-0.

Congratulations to all of our athletes and teams at NTU and good luck next week in what will be the final week of 2021 BUCS action.
