The 2021-2022 BUCS Squash Individual Championships were hosted in Nottingham this weekend. The annual 3-day event brought together over 350 of the best individual squash players, from UK Universities.

NTU scholar, Mariana Martins’ won the Grade C beating the number 1 seed in the semi-final. Mariana delivered strong results throughout the day winning the last 16 3-0, quarters 3-2, semis 3-1 and gave a strong performance in the final achieving a 3-1 victory against the University of Nottingham.

NTU Squash coach, Adam Turner, was thrilled with Mariana’s performance;
“Mariana is one of the hardest working players I have come across. Mariana’s strong commitment to her sport has paid off, ‘she attends training every week without fail and consistently goes above and beyond for the club both in matches and training”.
Mariana was as thrilled with her performance;
“I am really happy to have had such a good result for my first BUCS Individual Championship representing NTU. I have definitely missed being in competitions and winning this weekend gets me looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Congratulations to Mariana on ending term 2 on such a high, we cannot wait to see what term 2 has in store for her and NTU Squash.
