
Week 14 saw the most of our Premier and National League teams complete their respective league campaigns and find out their seedings for the National Championship knockouts and road to Big BUCS Wednesday, the end of season showpiece, on March 23rd at University of Nottingham.
Our Men’s Lacrosse 1st team made history this season, remaining unbeaten in their league campaign and winning the Premier North competition for the first time and denying Durham their long-held dominance on the division. The women’s 1st team are set to match the Men’s team in Premier North 2, with 2 fixtures left, they remain unbeaten.
Men’s Football 1st team have finished the season in 2nd place in the Northern Premier Division, picking up a top 4 seeding for the knockouts and a run at the National Champions. NTU Table tennis matches the football team, with Men’s 1st team coming 2nd in their Premier North Competition, while the Women’s will complete in their fixtures this weekend, looking to hold onto 3rd spot in their Northern Premier division.
Rugby League, our only competing team in the Premier South division, have had a tough season of it, however, they have ended the season 5th, retaining their status in the top tier of the competition, and looking to cause an upset in the cup.
Finally, both our Men’s and Women’s hockey 1st team compete in the Premier National League, and the Women’s team making their debut have had a fantastic season, retaining their place amongst the best teams in the country. Our Men’s team ended an up and down league campaign in 4th place, with the opportunity to have a good run into the knockout competition.
Back to yesterday’s action, some of our lower teams were aiming for Midlands’s conference cup glory, and on Clifton campus, our Men’s basketball 2s were up against Birmingham City University team who were a league above them and currently unbeaten. A thrilling game, one of the most exciting of the day, with the score narrowing in the 4th quarter, the team from NTU held on an won out 98-94 advance to the semi-finals.
Also, in Clifton our first team to qualify for the Conference cup finals which are happening on March the 9th at Loughborough University, were the Women’s Badminton 1st team, who defeated University of Nottingham 4th team to make it through to the finals day.
Our Women’s Rugby 1st team and Men’s tennis 2nd team also advanced to the next round of their respective Conference cups, beating Loughborough University 3rd team and University of Leicester 1st team respectively. Our Netball 2nd team wasn’t to be outdone, defeating University of Nottingham 5th team to advance into the semi-finals.
