BUCS Match report 23.02.22

Week 16 for our BUCS teams saw many of our 1st teams in the BUCS championships action looking to make it to the showpiece, the Big BUCs Wednesday finals. We had multiple teams in action this week and Clifton was full of excitement ahead of the day.

First up, we were on campus where Men’s football 1st faced Northumbria University’s 1st team in the championship quarterfinals on Clifton Football Pitch 4. The conditions didn’t lend for attractive football, but NTU know how to battle and in a tense game that was heading to extra time, NTU managed to score in the 3rd minute of injury time, to secure the win 1-0 firming their place in the semi-finals.

At the same time over on the 3G, the Men’s Lacrosse 1st team were heavy favourites in their championship quarterfinals against University of Exeter 1st team. The team carried on where they left off with an 18-2 win and will face local rivals University of Nottingham in the semi-final.

Table tennis Men’s 1st team had an away tie and were already into semi-final territory. The team had a trip down to Imperial College London which is always a tough place to play. With a place at Big BUCS Wednesday at stake the team rose to the challenge and came away victorious with a 9-4 win securing a championship final whilst becoming the 1st NTU team to qualify for Big BUCS Wednesday.

We did have multiple trophy and conference cup fixtures this week as well as many notable league fixtures where our teams could secure league titles. On campus, the Men’s tennis 1st team went to a shootout after drawing 3-3 with University of Stirling’s 4th team in the National Trophy competition quarter-final. It went to the final doubles in the shootout and the NTU team came out on top.

In the National Vase competition Men’s Rugby 1st team face University of Bath’s 2nds, this was a quarter-final tie for the team in the 2nd tier National cup competition in rugby. The team dominated the fixture from start to finish and came away with a 36-9 victory.

Final mention to Netball 2nd team who have made the conference cup final with a 57-43 win over University of Cambridge 1s. Men’s fencing 1st have also made the final beating University of Lincoln. Netball and fencing will be joining our 10 other NTU Teams in the Midlands conference cup finals on 9th March at Loughborough University.
