Week 17 was a massive week for many of our National Trophy teams who had kept their space in the competition. Six semi-finals were taking place where the teams had a chance to make Big BUCS Wednesday on the 23rd of March, the end of the season showpiece event.
Women’s Lacrosse 1st team have had an amazing season so far, initially playing for the first time in Premier North 2, they have an unassailable lead at the top of the division with 1 match still to play. Yesterday they were up against their league rivals in the semi-final of the National trophy, University of Durham 2nd team, away from home. In their closest match of the season so far, the girls maintained their hold over their opposition, winning 11-10 to secure their final spot. Well done girls on a great year so far.
Keeping with the unbeaten theme, both of our basketball 1st teams faced away trips in their National trophy semi-finals. Coincidently, both teams had Sheffield Hallam away and both were looking to maintain their perfect league and cup records. Each team never looked in danger of losing those records the Women’s team winning by a huge 96-42 and the Men’s winning 100-70. Congratulations to both teams on making the National Trophy Finals. The Men’s 2ndteam also had a delayed Midlands Conference cup final against De Montfort University’s 1st team, once again they beat a team in a higher division and now will join 10 other NTU teams in next week’s conference cup finals held at Loughborough University.

The girls didn’t disappoint, smashing the opposition 5-2 and booking their place in the final. On the Men’s football front, special mention to the 3rdand 4th teams who both achieved promotion from their midlands 4th tier leagues in their last games of the season.
