
We are thrilled to announce the NTU Sport Excellence Awards for 2022. This prestigious event will present athletes with awards to reward their achievements and contributions to their sport at Nottingham Trent University. These awards see the introduction of NTU Sport colours and two individual awards, Volunteer of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year. All nominations will be assessed by a panel of staff from NTU Sport and NTSU and those who are to be given an award, will be notified of this directly.
Please note, meeting criteria for an award is not a guarantee that an award will be made. The panel will also assess an individuals’ contribution and impact on their club, NTU Sport programmes and the wider university. Nominations can be made by anyone and you can nominate yourself if you wish. A nominee can also be put forward for multiple awards, using the form at the link.

The awards that can be applied for are as follows:
Full Colours
Full colours are awarded to students whose performances have contributed most significantly to the success of the club & department during their time at university.
To be considered nominees must demonstrate how they have met the criteria below:
- Be in their final year of study at the university (either Undergraduate or Postgraduate course)
- Have had International representation (full or one level below e.g. U21) or be in an External Professional (or equivalent) level club/franchise player.
- Have competed for NTU for at least two academic years as a regular in the university first team.
- Have significantly contributed to the development of the university sport programme.
Half Colours
Half colours are awarded to students whose performances have contributed most significantly to the success of the club during their time at the university.
To be considered nominees must demonstrate how they have met the criteria below:
- Part of a squad that has competed in the BUCS Championship final, achieving a gold or silver medal or
- Has been awarded a BUCS individual medal (of any colour)
- A non-BUCS equivalent at the highest level is also accepted
- And has significantly contributed to the development of the university sport programme.
Club Colours
Club colours are awarded to students who have contributed most significantly to the success of the club during their time at university going above and beyond their call of duty.
To be considered nominees must demonstrate how they have met the criteria below:
- Final year of study at the university (either Undergraduate or Postgraduate course)
- Member of the club committee
- Made an exceptional contribution to the club for at least 2 years
- Instrumental in the day to day running of the club
- Contributed to the club’s development
Volunteer of the Year
This award recognises a student volunteer who has stood out from their peers demonstrating excellent organisation, a passion to develop sport, ability to inspire others and a conscientious approach to developing NTU Sport and our reputation.
To be considered nominees must demonstrate how they have met the criteria below:
- Final Year of university (either Undergraduate or Postgraduate Course)
- Been active as a volunteer for the entire academic year prior to the nomination and is still an active volunteer for NTU Sport.
- The volunteer is not paid for their time and the activity is not an extracurricular activity to their course/studies.
- Demonstrated a high level of commitment to make a significant impact to NTU and / or the local community through their own effort.
- Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others.
Sportsperson of the Year
This award recognises a student-athlete who has stood out from their peers demonstrating excellent performances, a passion to develop and grow their sport, an ability to inspire others and have taken a significant leadership role in the development of their sporting programme.
To be considered nominees must demonstrate how they have met the criteria below:
- Have competed for NTU in BUCS activity in the academic year.
- To have competed at a National / International level away from their involvement with NTU.
- Achieved outstanding performance outcomes which have brought significant value to both themselves and the university.
- A track record of making a significant impact to NTU and / or the local community through their own effort.
- Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others.
