Week 3 and BUCS league programs are well under way now and our NTU teams are giving it everything they can to get wins on the board.

Talking of wins, our Men’s Basketball team, newly promoted to the Premier tier of BUCS, had 2 tough losses in their 1st 2 games, travelled to Manchester Met University looking for that 1st win that would kick start their campaign. They were not helped as a bug struck down 2 of their players plus Head Coach Dan Watts, but amazingly the team pulled together to secure a fantastic 96-61 win against the odds.
Back at Clifton Campus, in our match of the week, the Womens 1st Football team faced University of East Anglia’s 1st team, looking to continue their impressive start last week. A nervy start saw them go behind but after this the girls composed themselves and stormed to a 6-1 victory cementing themselves as promotion candidates.
Rugby Union womens 1st team started their campaign this week, at home to the University of Leicester 1st team, this was a return to Tier one action for the NTU side, and they weren’t overawed by the occasion, securing bonus point victory 35-24 over their East Midlands rivals.
The Mens 1st team put in a equally impressive display, a long away trip to Northumbria University and a late Kick off of 7.30pm meant a nervous wait for game time as results came in from other NTU teams success. The boys were obviously chomping at the bit and raced to a commanding lead, winning 46-19 to keep up a solid start for the boys in pink.
Away from the cold and wind, 2 of our racket sports teams secured excellent wins, at home the men’s 1st squash team face University of East Anglia’s 1st team to get themselves up to winning ways in their quest for promotion. A dominant performance followed with a whitewash 5-0.
Across the A52 out Womens badminton 1st team faced University of Derby 2nd team, again looking to continue on from their win last week. A tough match than their first fixture was on the cards and though they lost a couple of games they were never in doubt of a victory, winning 6-2.
