Rugby Union 1sts Dominate Leeds! – BUCS Week 4

Week 4 was a lower key week then previous due to a 1st cup week for many teams who had byes. This meant 65 fixtures across the week that involved NTU teams with just over 50 happening on the Wednesday.

Starting with last years National championship runners up, Men’s Table tennis, faced a short away trip to Loughborough University looking to bounce back from defeat to University of Nottingham, who beat them in the Championship final last year. The team never looked in trouble and powered to a 12-5 victory laying down a marker to the rest of the league.

Our Golf teams had their 1st fixtures of the campaign with both teams competing in one of the few mixed gendered competitions, the 1st team faced a home fixture verses University for Warwick 1st team and the 1st time they were competing in tier 1 after promotion last year. Under pressure the team performance fantastically coming away with a 4-2 victory to start their campaign brilliantly.

Meanwhile up in Durham, our Men’s 1st Lacrosse team faced their old enemy and last years National champions Durham University, who beat the NTU team in the final. This fixture always throws up tense and tight matches, but the team in pink today but in a blistering performance, winning 12-5 and going someway to redeeming their earlier season defeat to University of Nottingham.

Two teams that also feature in last weeks results of the week were Men’s 1st rugby and men’s 1st Basketball. They make the cut again after again putting in notable performances. Out 1st Rugby Team faced University of Leeds 1st team playing at home at the home of Nottingham rugby, Lady Bay. They were looking to maintain momentum after strong away victory last week and didn’t show any signs of slowing down racing to a at 17-0 lead at half time. The second half there was no let up and the NTU team raced in 54 points with the opposition managing a solitary converted score. Wining 54-7.

Men’s basketball, again a team looking to build momentum after an excellent win the previous week faced Northumbria University at Home. The Team in pink took the lead from the 1st minute and never relinquished it, coming out on top 97-76 and start to build a winning streak in the top tier of men’s basketball.

The final result of this week actually happened on Sunday, where the men’s Futsal 1st team faced local rival University of Nottingham in what is always a fiery contest.  The team were also away over at David Ross sports complex, looking to build on their 1st away victory the week before.  There were no nerves or hesitations from the NTU side, racing to a 9-4 victory and securing bragging rights in Nottingham for now.
