Women’s Squash 1sts comfortably beat University of Nottingham! – BUCS Week 5

Week 5 marks the halfway point of term one BUCS fixtures, with many of our Premier and National league teams seasons now taking shape, as well as the rest of our teams now firmly settled into their league campaigns.

Women’s Rugby Union 1st team have started their season very well and were looking to keep their unbeaten start and take top spot in Midlands Tier 1. They faced University of Worcester 1st team at West Bridgford Rugby Club who had also started their season unbeaten, so something had to give. The team in pink started brightly and took the lead early on, pushing home their advantage winning 36-10 to make it 3 out of 3 wins and top their league.

Away from home, but not far, our Women’s Squash 1st team faced another Tier 1 clash this time against University of Nottingham 3rd team looking for a first win of the season. The girls didn’t disappoint and got their season started with a convincing 3-1 victory to bring back over the Trent.

On the Clifton Hockey Pitch our Women’s 2nd team faced University of East Anglia 1st team which on paper could be a tough fixture to navigate. As it turned out the NTU Team clicked into gear from the off, and completely dominated the game running riot and winning 13-0. This put the team top of Midlands tier 2 with 3 fixtures gone.

Also at home, the Men’s Football 2nd team faced off against another 1st team, this time from Staffordshire University. A strong showing followed, and a dominant 3-1 victory maintained their unbeaten start. They sit 2nd in the Midlands 2A table.

Finally, we turn our focus to the weekend just gone and our Dodgeball teams. The Women’s 1st and Men’s 1st team were playing their first league matches of the season. The women’s team, in highest league they can play in, faced University of Warwick and Loughborough, winning 11-9 and 19-1 respectively. The Men’s team looking for promotion from tier 1 to Premier tier, faced University Warwick 2nd team and University of Birmingham 2nd Team also winning both games 16-4 and 13-7 to start their season in perfect fashion. Well done to both.

Next week is a big cup week for our lower teams with conference cup matches starting for many teams.
