Cheerleading Worlds Competition 2023

NTU Athletes in Worlds

We have 5 athletes competing in various teams in the Cheerleading Worlds Competition this year. One of whom was part of a Silver Globe winning team at Worlds 2022, the first UK team to achieve that.

Head Coach Stefan Warren says “it has been great having worlds level athletes compete with Nottingham Trent Tigers this season and no matter what happens out there on the floor your NTU Coaches and team mates are all incredibly proud of you”

After a season of hard work, training and focus, competing in Worlds is a huge achievement and we want to say a massive congratulations and wish them all the best of luck!

If you want a front row seat to all the actions at the Cheerleading Worlds competition then make sure to keep an eye on our Instagram story @ntusport on Sunday the 23rd of April where one of the attending athletes will be sharing her experience!

What is Worlds?

The Cheerleading World Championships features the most exciting performances, positive energy and shared emotions in All Star! It hosts more than 10,500 athletes from 25 countries. This year it is taking place from April 21st – 24th.

For teams to be eligible to compete at Worlds, they must first obtain a bid by entering competitions that are offering the appropriate qualifying rounds. There are 2 types of bids, the first being “paid bids” where all expenses are covered. These are awarded to the highest scoring teams from the most prestigious competitions. The second being “at large bids”, a bid with no monetary value and expenses are to be covered by the athletes.

Each routine is judged on difficulty and execution of jumps, standing tumbles, running tumbles, pyramid, basket tosses, dance, performance and overall routine composition. Creativity is a vital aspect of routine creation.

Teams compete on day 1 in the hope of making it to the finals on day 2, the top 10 highest scoring teams from each division will make it to finals. Teams will then compete for Gold, Silver & Bronze Globes. The competition is held at ESPN resort in Disney World, Orlando, Florida
