BUCS Match Report – 24.11.21

As we entered week 8 of NTUs BUCS season, many of our teams saw a big cup week, this included some of our 1stteams in the National Trophy Competition and a chance for a place at Big BUCS Wednesday finals in March.

Netball 1st team played against one of their league rivals in the National Trophy cup, they faced the University of Birmingham’s 2nd team away. However our team showed their level and came advanced to the next round with a 57-41 win.

Both Women’s volleyball teams at NTU advanced to the next round of their Midland conference cup ties. With special mention to the Women’s 2nd team overcoming Loughborough University 2nd team 3-2 in a tight encounter, that is a real victory for a team with many playing competitive volleyball for the first time ever this term!

Not to be outdone, Women’s fencing had a National Trophy tie against University of Warwick 1st team. This was the teams first outing of the year due to scheduling, and a great start as the team advanced to the next round with a fantastic 120-105 victory.

Finally, in our cup round up, both of our Women’s basketball teams had away knockout games. The 1st team in National Trophy actions vs University of Cambridge 1st and the 2nd Team at De Montfort University 1st team in the Midlands Conference cup. Both teams put in impressive displays. Highlighting their defensive credentials, the 1stteam won 95-17 and the 2nd team won 64-18 respectively and will both advance to the next rounds of their competitions.

It wasn’t all cup games yesterday, there were plenty of big league matches for our Premier and National league teams. Excellent results were delivered by our teams as the Men’s Hockey first team solidified their spot at the top of the National league with a Derby victory at home vs University of Nottingham 1st team, with just 2 league fixtures left.

Well done to all of our teams and athletes.
